    Default Artic convoys

Good afternoon all this is my first post.
Being disabled I've had to do a lot of fishing around for sites that's are not pay to look, so please be patient with me. Does anybody have access to crew records. I'm trying to find as much information about my uncle Oliver Nelson, born 24.12.1913 in Bolton, before moving to Chatham, Kent. Its believed that on one occasion his ship qas torpedoed and sunk and in the same day the ship that rescued him was also torpedoed and sunk. Unfortunately that's all the information I have. If anyone has any access to diaries or correspondents I would be most grateful

    Hello Nicholas
Thus far i have not been able to track him in the NA Files, there is one Nelson recorded but from South Shields Born 19/11/1913.

There is the Crew Lists online that you may look at,or also the Archives of the University of Canada which hold a great deal of Crew Lists.

Then the Southampton Archives also holds a lot of Original Crew Lists as well.

I will persue this and if i find anything will let you know

    Take Care

I sailed with an A.B. surname. Nelson about 1954, is a hard name to forget, remember him as a man probably in his 30s or early 40s . He was from the Tyne area somewhere , the 1954 May be a few years out , but do remember getting the then electric train from Whitley Bay to Newcastle and he was on it. I wondered how he managed to be there as we had just got back from Cairns FNQ, where he had jumped ship , and managed to get home before us. He sported a lot of tattoos even for those days , blond haired and of very medium stature. Must have belonged to the NE area, but in those days didn’t take too much notice. The ship would have been the Avonmoor or if my years of recollection incorrect maybe the Glenmoor. Regards JS

As I cannot see his Seamans Pouch at the NA Kew,there is a chance that his CRS10 will be there, and if so would be found in the Following Series. You would have to Apply for this and possibly get someone on your behalf to get to Kew in Person.

Would you know if he had a second name at all ,as this may help he could have used it when he first joined??
