Oceans full of plastic polution
I have thought about this for a while, I wonder how much of this is down to our days at sea discarding waste over the side, But the more I think I can remember many an empty can or glass bottle gash bucket thrown over the side at sea, But cant think of much in the way of plastic, Or have I simply forgotten something Terry.

And, take into account all the tankers running world wide that cleaned tanks and dumped all the waste and sludge over the side...they certainly did their part to start the environmental decline.....

Re: Oceans full of plastic polution
There has been quite a few studies done on taking the plastic and using it as fuel to heat up boilers and generate electricity by Steam wondered I read recently then takes the furnace Ash which has contaminants particularly metallic ones from the dyes involved with the plastic and adds it Into Road making material so it's not polluting anything . Sometimes I think that the waste disposal companies take a short-sighted view and dispose of the waste without thinking of what else could happen to it . We have two bins in our area general rubbish and recycle ball I had to sit down with my daughter the other week and explain to her that the recycle bin a supposedly saving the council a fortune which should reflect on our council tax I think an awful lot of people just haven't got the message

Re: Oceans full of plastic polution
All this talk about Plastics, if governments were serious about finding a solution all they have to do is put a ban on single use plastics. But no what do they do they put a 5p / 10p tax on the use of Plastic bags, Coffee cups etc! Yes this tax is supposed to go to charity UM!!!! does it.
The plastic industries have governments in their pockets, it is all bullshit,

Human bodies are becoming polluted with plastic, scientists have confirmed for the first time.
Tiny pieces were found in samples from every participant in an experiment which tried to estimate how much plastic we eat and drink every day.
Until now most research has focused on the natural world, but the new study shows that humans are also consuming plastic, with some pieces potentially lodging in our bodies.
The article I was informed of earlier:

Re: Oceans full of plastic polution
One way plastic bags now banned here in Oz, replaced by long life plastic pay for bags, save the supermarkets around $3 billion a year.
But a report today spoke of the amount of plastic particles in fish caught in the oceans.
Does BOT wash up, that is silver, china etc over the side, do any damage?
If it does then the seas between UK and South Africa are well and truly stuffed.
Happy daze John in Oz.
Life is too short to blend in.

Re: Oceans full of plastic polution
My son in law has a doctorate in plastic . He worked for BP at Grangemouth. Remember him telling me years ago that anyone who invented a method of breaking plastic down to nothing would make his fortune. This was before the hue and cry about it. However it has been known for years that plastic is just about indestructble, saw him not so long back , but forgot to ask him if he still held the same views. JWS
