    Default Berge Istra/Berge Vanga

Reading the thread regarding ship wrecks around the South African Coast reminded me of the loss of these two sister ships lost off the coast of Mindanao with only two survivors from both of these vessels. If I am correct in thinking it was the loss of these ships that led to the mandatory fitting of inert gas plants on vessels carrying crude oil in bulk. They were built to carry iron ore from Brazil to Japan and then crude oil from the Persian Gulf to Europe.
I came across this interesting utube video showing the construction of the Berge Istra.

I also came across a Norwegian Website "Captains Voyage" (I think) wherein the Norwegian Captain who had sailed on them reckoned he new the cause of the explosions that caused them to disappear and he claimed it was down to the inadequacy of the inert gas plants fitted. Have searched for his story but cannot find it.
