John, there are 50,000 plus vessels and 1.5 million seamen plying the earths oceans at any one given time, they seem to be doing quite well without us whether we like it or not, and if companies of all hues and religions have their way all humans at sea will become redundant anyway but trade will continue

    So right there John.
I have seen container ships in and out in as little as four hours, not even long enough to dress for going ashore.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Life is too short to blend in.

As a seafarer on one of the four remaining Australian registered blue water ships I can attest to the life - if you can call it that. I complete three trips to Japan in a 12 -13 week swing and if I was able to go ashore everytime in Japan, I would clock up the grand total of 15 hrs ashore. The young blokes in this industry cannot comprehend the time ashore we had when I first went to sea in the '70's. The mates on these ships NEVER get ashore until they pay off. Enjoy the forum. Cheers Boot

Philip your obviously working out of Dampier. The only time ashore on your swing would be going up to Karratha a day early and booking in to the Mermaid pub in Dampier . Even then it would be a taxi ride to the base terminal and would have to allow for travelling time. Do you get 3 swings off still. ? JS

One of many posts I have perused referring to Ivan. Please note that out of a total of zero posts, Ivan managed to clock up over 16,000 Likes. This glitch requires updating. It also proves Ivan Cloherty's name was removed from the Top Posters list intentionally.
Looks like I will be joining the ranks of ex-members for saying this,. but if so, it will only be for speaking the truth.
