Germany’s Meyer Werft to build P&O Cruises' largest vessel yet

Jan 26 2018CruiseCarnival Corporation & plc has signed a contract with German cruise shipbuilder Meyer Werft to build a 180,000gt, 5,200-passenger vessel for its P&O Cruises subsidiary. When delivered in 2022 this vessel will become the largest cruise ship yet built for the British company and the largest vessel aimed specifically at the British cruise market.

Plans for the World’s Largest Ship Freedom

Entrepreneurs at Freedom Ship International are designing a 4,320 foot 25 story vessel that will be home to 50,000 people. Freedom will displace 2.7 million tons, about four times more than Seawise Giant (aka Jahre Viking). The ship will be built of 520 airtight steel cells.Each cell will measure 80 feet tall and depending on its location on the hull from 50 to 100 feet wide and 50 to 120 feet long. These steel cells, each about 300 x 400′ long, will be floated out to sea and joined to form the complete ship.The ship will travel the world circumnavigating the globe once every two years. Freedom will be big enough to accommodate residents, plus 15,000 employees and 20,000 daily guests and have four times as much roaming space in square feet per person than most modern cruise lines. Freedom is also expected to have 17,000 homes and 4,000 businesses.According to designers traditional shipbuilding methods would have been too expensive for such a large ship so they devised a way to build Freedom by assembling it at sea. The wealthiest residents will live in 15 x 80′ ocean view apartments and be able to board private Jets on the roof top airport or yachts tethered to the ship for local excursions.

Not that I would wish doom and gloom on anything but How on earth would you go about rescuing 50000 people if that thing startef to sink . Costa Concordia wasn't an easy rescue and that was right on the shoreline

When all the ships have sunk, China will still be able to export on the new Silk Road I beleive a railway from China to Turkey.

Any one who has been on a cruise will tell you that up to 3,000 bloods is fine, beyond that is far too many.

But Vernon, don't laugh there is one cruise ship, Carnival I think with a putting green on it.

Man with all this building is in my opinion getting too smart for his own good.

Des it goes beyond Turkey now, there was a news Item last month here in France and Macron was meeting the train and a Chinese delegation. They were back loading the train for the start of the return leg. I had to smile though as they were loading cars and they were driving them onto similar type carriages as they use for the Euro Tunnel trains. Macrons face was a picture, the cars they were loading (SUV's) were all Range Rovers and Jaguars. I assume how this train operates is it just connects into national rail networks .
