504 were rescued - My grandfather Captain John Pascoe senior and his crew among them. His ship was sunk. He and his first mate were called out for bravery, got all crew into the boats. I have his medals and OBE. My lovely granddad. Never talked about it though, really. His sons were Captains John Pascoe, William Pascoe; grandson, Captain John Pascoe - all deceased now, sad to say.

    Hello Jackie,

I feel so sorry for the families of drowned seamen - particularly when they were told that ships passed by their men in the water and did not stop to pick them up. What an awful thing to have to think about. That is one of the reasons why we must continue to tell the truth about PQ17. The Media (as I have said so many times before ! ) are only interested in telling a tale of disaster. In fact, PQ17 had many facets to its story and heroism and extreme bravery in the face of terrible odds is the main thread. It is up to us, Jackie, to continue to let the public know the TRUTH, instead of the gospel according to the BBC.

Your grandfather, as Master of SS BOLTON CASTLE, features in a book by David Irving. "The Destruction of PQ17" You can find the whole book online and your grandfather on pp. 176,177-180 and 294

    Best wishes
    Brenda

Watching it again now, repeat just starting: BBC FOUR.

    Hello Keith
A First class programme indeed in many respects. Just be aware of the hidden agenda which is not telling the truth and nothing but the truth. See posts # 16;22;25
