Originally ordered from Greenock Dockyard Yard Nos 511 and 512.The Greenock Dockyard Co Ltd owned the yard until it was taken over in 1966 by Scotts' Shipbuilding & Engineering Co Ltd. Among the ships completing at the time of the take over were two, Nos. 510 and 511, for Geest Industries Ltd. As the ultimate owners of these ships had not been involved in the shipyard transactions, it was decided to form a new company to see these contracts through. Consequently, the 'Geestcape' and 'Geesthaven' were handed over by Cartsdyke Dockyard Co Ltd, incorporated March 1966. The ships, however, were recorded in Lloyds Register as products of Scotts' Shipbuilding & Engineering Co Ltd. Following the delivery of the two Geest ships the Cartsdyke Dockyard Co Ltd ceased to trade. CDC ceased to trade for a number of years and was reinstated to provide financial support for tankers building at the Glen Yard.
