    Default Denmark's Titanic

In 1959 the Danish liner ss Hans Hedtoft sailed on its maiden voyage. She struck ań iceberg off the coast of Greenland and was lost with all hands and passengers, the only piece of wreckage Found was a lifebuoy. There were 40 crew and 55 passengers on board at the time and she remains the last vessel to be sunk by a iceberg. For the full story Google " Denmark's Titanic".

    Another interesting report:

She's been called the "Danish Titanic." Only the Hans Hedtoft received a far worse fate.

Like her more famous predecessor, she was state-of-the-art with a double steel bottom, an armoured bow and seven watertight compartments. From radar to gyro, the ship carried the latest navigational instrumentation and radio-equipped life rafts. During its maiden voyage, the Hans Hedtoft struck an iceberg in the North Atlantic. Unlike Titanic, tragically there was no one left to tell the story. To this day, the Hans Hedtoft remains an enigma.

A book about this has now been published. Unfortunately, the author has (allegedly, according to Danish reviewers) failed to give solid new insight into the sinking.
