Liverpool
Here in Melbourne we have on talk back radio a garden show Saturday and Sunday, it can be seen on the net.
Sunday morning the show received a call from an Australian lady on vacation, she as phoning from Liverpool
Her comments,
'Liverpool is the cleanest, well kept, best looking city I have seen, with some of the friendliest persons around'.
She then went on to explain how Queen Victoria had been instrumental in the development of the Liverpool docks seeing It as a vital port for UK trade with the rest of the world, something that many may not be aware of.
Apparently if you walk slowly along 'Penny Lane' at he same speed a the record you will end up outside the barbers shop as in the song.
Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: Liverpool
Although I did only spend a very short time in the old days there, what I recall is still a lovely Memory,be it very feint LOL!
But on that comment " if any had sailed with a Liverpool crowd who would you feel safer with if trouble started in a bar " I can assure you that it was genuine Friendship that I had with quite a few Scousers and had a few times in Bars that I was thankful for the Company!
I still would really love to visit Liverpool (Sober) and see all the things that I should have done long long ago!
Yes there may be that silly stigma on the Liverpool People (But for sure its only the few like many other places) that make it so!
One must first go and see for ones self before casting stones!
Liverpool I have always held a great liking for it and its people ,as it has the start point I think of a great Shipping Nation!
Go Liverpool !!
Cheers
The Mersey City
Liverpool on the Irish sea
Tuebrook, Toxteth and Wavertree
Home of the beatles and full Mersey beats
and yummy scouse is no mean feats
Baby beetroot served on top
and when it rains its no mean flop
you can visit museums or travel abroad
from railway or airport to the norwegian fjord
City of culture for two thousand and eight
why not have the day here or more with your mate
book on national express or take a fast train
and sing sounds of liverpool with a merry refrain
it's the home of 3 graces who welcome you home
and all will be proved with google chrome
I Am A Displaced Scouser
I am a displaced Scouser,
Who comes from Bootle way,
And no matter where I go,
A Scouser will I stay.
I eat my chips on Butties,
Or perhaps upon a barm,
I get by on old Scouse wit,
And on my Liverpool charm.
But I’ve never owned a tracksuit,
It’s simply not my style,
And I’m not a football maniac,
Or have a police file.
So remember that you can’t believe,
All that people say,
About us lowly Scousers,
Who come from Bootle way.

Re: Liverpool
Liverpool was always my favourite city, it has a Buzz that other cities do not have, and much more Interesting.
I live a 20 minutes from Manchester, 11 miles away. the bus stops at the bottom of my road, I have never been to Manchester for over 30 years since I was in the Divorce Court.
I have a lot of mates there and used to live in the South End, in Chester Street, off Stanhope Street, near the Flat Iron. many years ago.
I will be back in Liverpool on 6 September on Sunday for the Merchant Navy Day parade at St Nicks Church.
Cheers
Brian.

Re: Liverpool
With two grandmothers and one grandfather being born in Liverpool and a father being born in Dublin how else can I say other than that the city has to be the centre of the universe. My daughter agrees, she and her three children are fanatical Liverpool FC fans, even though they were all born in New Zealand ! Regards Peter in NZ.

Re: Liverpool
Yes it is nice to hear positive things being said about Liverpool.A very popular port of call for cruise passengers, walk down the gangway and Liverpool starts there. It is becoming very popular with Stag & Hen Parties, young ones travelling here to celebrate their coming big day.Unfortunately there is one young man,the future groom, who lost his life at the Albert Dock this week.A stag do at the Albert Dock three young men ended up in the water, they were pulled out but the groom-to-be died how sad is that.

Re: Liverpool
We had Liverpool football team out here last year for an exhibition match. The crowd was one of the biggest ever seen at the MCG, and when they began top sing the theme song hairs stood up on the back of my neck. A wonderful tribute to the city and it's people.

Re: Liverpool
The only thing I do not like now is the Car Parking fees, very expensive and that will deter the day tripper.
It is a Minimum of £2 an hour, in Liverpool One a lot more expensive per hour. I was there about four weeks ago with a mate from NZ, six hours cost me £13.60p.
When I went to see the Three Queens I spent over £30 on parking
When the Albert Dock was started it was all free.
But for a day tripper, petrol plus parking turns people off, an expensive day out. I don't go as often as I used to do because of that.
Over here it is one pound per hour, When I go to the Merchant Navy Parade at ST Nicks next week it will cost about 6 to 8 pounds to park.
Cheers
Brian
PS My only complaint.

Re: Liverpool
Brian £1.00 an hour in Bolton I thought it would've been free.LOL Joking apart Brian your not to bad on your feet drive along the dock road around by the Stanley Dock, were the bridge is across the road I'm sure that there are lots of places there where you can park on the road free.To St.Nicks it would be nearer than Liverpool One.
Regards.
