Just a small piece from the latest Email I got from Courtney!
How lovely and we all remember this sort of thing don't we!
Crossing the Line Ceremony
Cheers
So i bet you are wondering what went on during our 16 longest days ever at sea this trip. Well luckily you asked. So much went on at sea, don't know where to start.
Well lets talk about crossing the line. It is a ceremony held when the ship crosses the equator line. The people who haven't crossed the line before are called Pollywogs (me) and about 10 senior members of the ship are called Bears. the rest of the ship gets to watch the ceremony. The activities started the night before the ceremony. the pollywogs had to get summoned to the Juniors Sailors cafe at 20:00 and if we did not obey this, there bears come searching for us. So myself and a few of my friends decided to hide because the bears kept scaring us and telling us to watch out so best thing to do is hide. We hide in the cardio room behind the walls and even on the roof in the dark. My plan worked because when one of the bears came in, she couldn't see so i quickly ducked out of the door way and escaped. I laughed so she ran after me and caught me. Took me down to get summoned and to await the ceremony. The last person to get found was at 2100 so it was like a giant game of hide and go seek.
The ceremony was freaking awesome, had no idea what to expect. It was by far the best day at sea! We got to meet King Neptune. We got eggs and coffee and chickpeas and stew thrown at us. Salt water was sprayed at us. All the pollywogs where held captive in a cage. It was so cool. We got called out one at a time to meet King Neptune. Some people got charges. One of the girls in my mess got a charge for blowing the fuse with her hair straightener too many times. It was so funny! When we got called we had to resist from them and fight a little back. I got stew showed in my face! It was so gross. I also got food dye through my hair to simulate blood. After the ceremony we got washed down! Damn did i have egg shells all through my hair for days! We got to dress up for this and decorate our suits (we got given like chemical suit things and got to cut them up). Definitely by far the best day i have had at sea!

Hi Vernon.
You must be proud of your Granddaughter. Brought back memories of my first crossing the line. Keep an eye on that Abbot I believe he has an eye for the girls, especially when wearing his budgie smugglers.
Cheers Des

Re: HMAS Anzac (Moved to its own place )
It is a good job they are called pollywogs and not spelt with a G or we would all be in trouble. On three cruise ships we have had the ceremony and on each occasion at the end the skipper, who must attend according to company rules, is thrown into the poll, fully clothed. Bit different from our days I think.
Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: HMAS Anzac (Moved to its own place )
Well spent the Weekend at Wooloomooloo near the Naval Base at the Mariners Court Hotel, very handy good value for the Money!
Anyway my Courtney arrived back on Saturday after their five Month Tour of Duty,it was a ver emotional home coming and must say a lot of tears were shed! But this time all Happy Tears!
There was a huge crowd at the Wharf to Welcome back all our Service personell a great job well done and lead by a great Commander Belinda!
The Family spent a long time with Courtney, talking and talking about all her travels and places she had visited, and I must say for a Young Lady she really got around, and related her stories so well and in such detail,it was so pleasing to just sit and listen to all her tales!
She is now going to be shore based for a few Months before going on another mission which she thinks at this stage may be in February of 2016. So its a rest period for then all now,and well deserved!
Yesterday Courtney went to see her best Friend off on the HMAS Melbourne as well,it was hard for the two of them as they only saw each other for a day and a bit!
The Ship is on a 7 Months Tour of Duty to the Gulf and Middle Eastern Ports, a harder trip for those that left on her!
So I am again going to Book in that same Hotel for 7 days in September from the 6th to the 11th so as I can spend some quality time with my dearest adopted Granddaughter!
I am so thrilled and proud of the fact she is back and has achieved so much in her short carrier thus far!
Well done my dear Courtney!
Cheers

This one for you Capt this Hotel is good and well priced in Walking Distance to most places and very near to the Docking Area you last arrived at! Walk there in not more than 10minutes or Cab just 3 Minutes!
A hidden Gem! $115 a Night Twin share with free Breakfast. Good Brekkie too.
Right in the Heart of Wooloomooloo ! Great place
Cheers
