I think I recall hearing about it but never saw him.
The main one was Paddy McGrath, a big fat slob who used to have a reputation as a street fighter, I once sorted him out at the back of the new Pool when he tried to get money out of me to get me back on the pool.
He always wanted a fiver to get you back on. A weeks wages in those days. Bent berstered. He got involved in a distant way in the Cameo case. Inspector Balmer got McGrath to get Jimmy Skelly a job at sea, tho` he had never been to sea before, Jimmy was in Walton Gaol, for a minor offence and was a witness for George Kelly who was later hanged, so to get the witness away for the trial Balmer got Jimmy out of gaol and away to sea with McGrath`s help, and so he missed the trial, So George Kelly had no defence witness and so he was hung
    Cheers
    Brian.

Recall seeing that in our news here in Oz. Caught by the tide and could not get back.

The tide in Morecambe Bay comes in like an express train. Fleetwood has a rise of tide of over 10 metres. that is BIG.

Wirral is bad as well , the number of people that get out either walking out to or coming back from Hilbre Island. As you head out and if you do not follow the recommended route you can get caught on the west Hoyle bank you think you are okay and when you look behind you the tide has flooded in to trap you on the bank with a rising tide you have nowhere to go, also there are quick sands of the coast there as well. I have lived for over 40 years and still treat that area with a lot of respect when I back over. The changes in the sand banks over time is amazing. Thankfully there are plenty of warning and advice notices posted on the shoreline.
