    Default Merchant Navy Day 2019

Once again Seafarers UK is campaigning to raise public awareness of the UK’s ongoing dependence as an island nation on Merchant Navy seafarers and shipping.

We have sent the attached guide to every council in the UK, from the smallest parish meetings and town councils to the largest city councils, boroughs, counties and other local authorities. The guide includes a welcome endorsement from HRH The Earl of Wessex.

Our ask to councils and other organisations is straightforward. Please fly a Red Ensign on a civic building and/or flagpole in a public place. And, where possible, organise a flag-hoisting ceremony - promoting it via local and social media.

‘Old Friends Plus’ members may already be in touch with their local councils about plans for events on or around 3 September? If not please would they lobby councillors, Mayors and executive officers to ensure that Merchant Navy Day is not overlooked.

Our ‘Roll of Honour’ at www.merchantnavyday.uk is the place to register all locations ashore where the Red Ensign will be flown…

    Best wishes

    Nick
