    Hi.
Sailed on a few of J and J Denholm Tankers in the 70s as 3rd Mate - notably the Burmah Opal(or awful) and the Nordic Clansman plus a couple of others, whose names I forget and I can't find my discharge book!

Burmah Opal was a ship and half joined in genoa had weeks in Capetown for repairs and tank cleaning - remember one guy 'jumped ship', saw us sail and went down to agents to see if any gear was left for him only to find we put back with more problems!!

Also if I remember rightlty the pumpman died just after leaving Tranmere Oil Terminal and was buried at sea.

hi , i don`t get on this site very often so i`m a bit late sending this.i was on the clans man sept-75-jan 76
i was on the naess champion when she changed her name to the burmah jet, then i sailed on the burmah zircon which i`d previously sailed on as the naess soverign, was the opal previously the naess endevour?
i do know all the naess ships were well past their best ,the zircon blew her boiler tubes and we were dead in the water for days and days until they sorted out who was going to tow us into duba i so i understand why you called her the awful .i served on quite a few denholm ships and texaco too as an engineer

hi sorry i`m a bit late replying ,i served as an engineer on quite a few denholm ships, i was on the naess champion when she changed her name to the burmah jet, then i was on the burmah zircon (which i`d previously sailed on as the naess soverign) she blew boiler tubes and we were dead in the water for days and days until they decided who would tow us into Duba,i an awful experience .a young lad from the tug that was going to tow us was killed as a rope dragged him off our ship and he hit his head. the naess ships were all well past their best when they were sold to burmah,so i understand the opal being the awful. was she previously the naess endevour?

    hi keven
we joined the tanker hope park in bremenhaven the same day what a size to us after being on orecarriers i diden know she was later named stonhaven that must have been her 3rd name as she the goodhope 1 on shipyard drawings that name changed when denholms took over management am i right in saying she was 180.000 tons if so she must have been the biggest tanker under the red ensign at that time
good to catch up with you after all these years

    regardsd
