'Mishnish' what kind of a name is that for a ship, try saying that after a few beers, even over the VHF and sober people would think you were pizzed, also when sending in morse in response to 'What ship' people writing down your response would think they'd made a mistake

Ivan, My best mate, You certainly have a point there for once I agree with you and I have never given it a thought on those lines. Apparently the name originates from the isle of Mull, I am sure someone from up there will correct us Terry.

Hi Guys only just found this forum. I joined the Burmah Zircon in France as a J/E she had just changed name from Neass Soverign (1974). I had served an apprenticeship shore side with the MOD and this was my first ship. Not knowing anything about MN ships I joined wearing my blues uniform, and did I get the piss taken out of me for that. The third I was on watch with was Iain Byrne a real steam queen, one of the good guys. :-) This was the only steam ship I was on it was GTVs and motor ships after that. Later I was on the Dalma what pile of crap that was and then OBOs.

I sailed on the Naess Champion for 5 months as cadet about 1972. Joined in Lavera paid off in Singapore and in between did a bunch of West Africa to Med trips, a PG to Brazil run and last laden trip was PG to OZ. I remember the CO when I joined was from Carlisle and when I left it was a young John Gardiner whom I met many years later when he was a marine super and was working for Burmah Oil co in London.
