Its probably been on before, but this film is a few years before my time, but not a lot had changed. What reminded me of my time was the cluttered decks, hatch boards , hatch beams lying everywhere, dunnage etc. In this day and age of everything having to be trip hazard checked etc, this film shows it, and the amount of labour all gone, to what we have today, an island nation with no Merchant navy, kt

Took your life in your hands just trying to get to the ship, ducking and diving as horse drawn carts sneaked up on you, dockers on bogies flying about, lorries everywhere and the slings on the cranes dropping down on you. Great times.

A time when men worked for a living not like now.
A time when Great Britain was just that.
A time we may never see again.

A time when the beer was good, the wages poor but all were happy.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Life is too short to blend in.

    Hi Keith
Great film, I was in Tilbury in 49, I was hoping to see my first ship on there, took me back to my good old days, where; despite the poor pay,
who thought of pay in those days it was all an adventure.
    Cheers Des
