    Default Britain's Slave Trade.

The Slave Trade was the the richest part of Britain's trade in the 18th century.

Fouro, only one comment, ignores the involvement of the Arabs and other tribes in the slave trade.

The pyramids of Giza were built by slaves, long before Britain had a Merchant navy, we cannot take the blame for all slaves

    Re # 3.
Tombs discovered near Egypt's great pyramids reinforce the theory they were built by free workers rather than slaves. The location of the tombs where the workers who built the pyramids are buried, suggests they were not slaves. The tombs made from bricks of dried mud, date back 4,500 years. The fact these tombs were built beside the king's pyramid indicates these people were not by any means slaves.
I have no doubts slaves were put to work during the building of the pyramids, these slaves being prisoners of defeated armies. Quite a difference from the Slave Trade of the 18th century.

Fouro without looking it up but if remember correctly, the Israelites were the slaves or bondsmen of Egypt for bondsmen Read bondswomen and children to be politically correct, and were lead out of Egypt by Moses who was an Egyptian by birth. In a different century the Israelites were also slaves of King Nebaganazzar of Babylon who released them so as to return to Israel to rebuild Solomon’s Temple which had been razed to the ground during earlier times. Babylon is today Iran. It was a sign of the times slavery and still is in certain parts of the world. Although abhorrent today in peoples minds, at one time was a part of life. Slavery was existent in Britain only it was called serfdom. History cannot be altered to put peoples modern day feelings at ease. Slavery existed in a lot of peoples minds in the twentyth century especially apprentices on tramp ships. No names mentioned. Cheers JWS.

Slave trading in one form or another has been going on as long as man has been on this planet.
The romans made slaves of persons captured when they were conquered by the Romans.
Only recently a slave ring was discovered here in Oz.
Brining young girls into the country on the guise that they would be given work but in fact were kept as slaves.
Dozens living in large houses acting as modern day slaves.
    Happy daze John in Oz.

Maybe that’s why some were so careful to leave the eyes in Rob so they could watch you eat them. Have a family member by marriage who started in the galley in British Tankers when they were BTC. He done well in the catering Industry, was the catering manager for Portsmouth Council at one time , and was there when the fleet got back from the Falklands and was in charge of all the functions that went on that week. Also spent time in Bermuda for a few years in management of one of the hotels. Finished up in the prison service teaching our wayward youth. Like all of us now getting old. It always interests me where all the ex seamen of earlier years finished up , and if their earlier experiences at sea put them in good stead for later life. He was one good example. Cheers JS

Fouro, may I respectfully suggest a visit to William Wilberforce House in Hull which may enlighten you on what the UK did in helping redress the slave trade, are you on a I Hate Britain campaign, if so why not not direct your efforts to Portugal who started the African slave trade by buying slaves submitted by other African tribes and Arabs, I feel sure the Portuguese will appreciate your efforts in bringing their part in the slave trade back into their public domain.
