Hi shipmates, I was on the "Patia for 9 months and the last trip to the scrap yard in Naples 1972 a proper ship with derricks and wooden canvas hatches wooden decks and a young crew flew home from Naples a very sad day.

Yes, I was on the Patia and the Pacuare but cant remember when as I don't have discharge books any more. Was around 1968 until 1973. I was 3rd or 2nd engineer. I was with Fyffes for 8yrs from 1965 to 1973. From jnr eng. to 2nd eng.

There are still a few models left for new owners.
For the UK, I can give the ships the Elders and Fyfffes names / flag

    Regards,
    Nico

That was a later class than the previous one I was on in 1958.

    Good morning Mick,
I sailed on the former ss Cibao - later renamed ss Choluteca - one of the nine post war Yaque-class of United Fruit Co. from Bethlehem Steel at Sparrows point. These nine ships were the very last ships with a counter stern which made the ship's rudder vunerable in war time. All nine sisters were employed between USA ports and the common banana ports and carried 12 passengers - mostly kids and families of UFCO employees. In later years, these ships were used to supply the US troops in Vietnam till 1970 when 4 ships went to Elders & Fyffes and the other 5 to Van Nievelt Goudriaan. I joined Choluteca in 1970 when she was almost 25 years old. Good memories, made me decide to save this ship from disappearing from our minds forever, so I had 15 models built by professional modelmakers - most of them have found new owners in the USA/Switzerland/Germany/Netherlands - the cost is in Euro 1725,00 + 21% vat which is a non-profit price.
