That new Cruise terminal was the best thing that ever happened to Liverpool.

Re: Seven Seas Voyager.
I know many of you will never cruise, and some do not like the look of them, they are not like the one we sailed on. But apart from that theye are now the best when it comes to luxury and service. The choices on offer afre far removed from those of our day and whilst many may say they are only floating hotels, they are bloody good ones.
Happy daze John in Oz.

Re: Seven Seas Voyager.
Very true John
I would not do anything else. It must be a nightmare stuck in a holiday hotel in Benidorm for two weeks, same thing every day. same scenery, boring.
I have booked again for January for a 60 day cruise. with Holland America, they are excellent ships to sail on.
Chose your ship and Company and Itinerary wisely and you will enjoy.
Cheers
Brian.

Re: Seven Seas Voyager.
Not for me, if i am going to get Noro Virus, i might as well go straight to the hospital, and get it there. Saves the cost of the cruise in the first place. On a serious note, it seems cruise here are starting to charge for lots of things that were normally free, and whatever you do , dont get ill, as i posted recently, a friend of mine had a fall, £135 to be stretchered from his cabin to the ships doctor. total bill when he left the ship £1400. Another guy i know recently on a cruise a women was charged £112 for an injection against Noro virus. She played up merry hell, and they scrubbed the charge, KT

Re: Seven Seas Voyager.
Hi KT
I have been doing LONG cruises for 20 years, every year, and never seen noro virus,
Travel insurance takes care of any illness. I always take my own medicines with me and am independent of the ships doctors.
As I have said before, chose your ship and Company well before you go, there are some cheap and nasty companies out there, chose wisely.
I sailed with Cunard for 12 years and with Holland America for 8 years no problems.
There are hotels where it was quite common to go sick in. plenty in Spain and other places.
The only claim I have had on Insurance while cruising was in Honolulu when I had pains I knew no ships doctor could fix so I went to hospital there in a taxi and they saved my life with two major life saving operations , all paid for on Insurance. total including first class flights home and hotels in Honolulu for three weeks and medical bills was $88,000 that was around £60,000 but the insurance paid up, no problem, and then next year no extra charges at all. Even if you are going into europe in a hotel get good insurance where ever you go , No Problems at all with any thing.
You get what you pay for, go on a cheap cruise line expect cheap treatment.
Cheers
Brian

Re: Seven Seas Voyager.
Nor virus is caused by un hygienic passengers, not the ships.
I have seen passengers use the toilets, leave without washing their hands.

Re: Seven Seas Voyager.
I note that cruising seems to be quite popular with a lot of members, notably Captain Kong, who seems to be forever afloat and I know it can be quite addictive, borne out by a recent trip we did with my sister and her fella on a P&O boat down the Med. They were celebrating their 22nd cruise. Apart from cruises during my time at sea, we'd never experienced latter day shipboard life. Our companions showed us 'the ropes' from smuggling booze aboard to obtaining the best tables in restaurants etc. the ship was full. Mainly Brits so no language problems(apart from one or two Northeastern dialects which could have been Serbo Croat for what I could translate). Eating in the restaurants was ok, though a bit rushed if on first sitting. The deck buffets I did not enjoy, queueing for food then attempting to find somewhere to consume it. Canteen Culture. Added to that it can be tempting to pig out at the self service buffets, staff should serve rather than a free for all dash which, I noted usually ends up with some leaving half their grub on the tables uneaten. Entertainment was good and varied and all English themed. However, I found that to get into these theatres in the evening one had to wolf down dinner to stand a chance of getting a seat. Most of the ports visited were just a brief visit- ' in and out like a bridegrooms prick', little opportunity to do some cultural tourism, (although there's always a 'First And Last' handy).
All in all I would prefer a little less crowded holiday afloat, maybe one of our yacht owning members could oblige for our next holiday.

Re: Seven Seas Voyager.
I have never been on P&O or down the Med. never fancied them.
With HAL on long trips there are many sea days so much more relaxed and get into a nice comfortable routine.
I don't like being in port everyday, Our day at sea is, Breakfast in the cabin, fill in the menu at bedtime and leave it on the door handle.
9am a gentle knock on the door and the waiter brings in the breakfast tray. places it on the table and so we can sit in our free white dressing gowns and slippers, a leisurely breakfast, then showered and dressed and out on deck, A leisurely walk around the prom deck five circuits equals one mile. watch the dolphins leaping, the occasional whale spouting and just watching the wake. A cup of coffee and biscuits in the Lido then stop and chat to people we know then lunch in the lido, No rushing , people do behave on those ships. and the Staff do serve so no pushing or anything.
Afternoon is spent sat at the pool side for a spell, a little bronzy, then late afternoon I go to the Gym and have an hour working out with weights and the machines.
then to the cabin , shower and change for dinner. always have a late dinner, 8pm, wearing a dinner suit and bow tie, a leisurely dinner chatting to the same friendly people on the same table every night. At 10pm go to the theatre and watch a good show, different one every night. Some big International show biz stars, like Shirley Bassey and so on. Good comedians as well. then as stroll into the Casino and watch the rich throwing thousand dollar chips on the tables. A couple of drinks and then to bed.
There are lots of other good entertainments on during the days as well.
That is just an example of a nice leisurely cruise day at sea.
Then arrive in Honolulu for two days and nights. A trip to Pearl Harbour and aboard the Memorial bridge over the Arizona, very interesting and moving knowing there are a couple of thousand dead sailors underneath us. A trip to Waikiki Beach or a tour of the Royal Palace, again very interesting.
Then another four days at sea to the next beautiful Island in the south Pacific down to Bora Bora, Moorea and Tahiti and another two days alongside partying with my Tahitian mates, and so on through Paradise.. it is a wonderful life
The Med cannot compare. there is no way I would go if I was given a free cruise, there on those ships.
Some ships are like Bendidorm at Sea, Fun Boats, I would never ever go on them, Choose your ship wisely and the voyage.
Try it, you might like it. Not all that expensive.
It sure beats Benidorm.
Cheers
Brian.
