#1... welcome James and hope you find what you seek here. When I look at cVs like yours it always makes me feel sad. When I see the 14 years you put in mostly into the one company . I hope your reasons for leaving the sea were not forced on you by the circumstances of the day and you left for a better life.i saw too many good men forced into retirement through no fault of their own and in most cases any redundancy money was very small. Most are too proud to say why they really left and fall back on the new marriage as an excuse. Anyhow as others will say welcome to the site.cheers JWS.

Yes, at one time we were friends who used to meet up regularly. I went to his wedding in Newport. We lost touch and I only found out recently from this site that he had died.
I was with Harrison line from 1957 to 1971.
    Regards James Fleming

Thanks for that. It was my forthcoming marraige why I left the Merchant Navy plus Harrison Line were going into container ships which I did not like the idea of.
I have many happy memories of my time at sea.
    Regards James

    Hi James.
Welcome and hope you enjoy whats on offer.
Did two trips on the Harperley in 52, Capt J Wharton, down the west coast of Africa for iron ore for Rotterdam, nearly sunk by the Queen Mary in thick fog in the channel.

    Hello James

Gerry Whitehead was a great pal of mine. We knew each other from our time in Harrisons and remained in close contact until, sadly, he passed away.
I was at his wedding to Jackie in Newport, so we must have known each other, were you known as Jimmy Fleming?
I joined Harrisons in October 61 and left late 71
I have checked my record of ships and it appears that we sailed on many of the same ships but never at the same time
    All the best
    John

Hi John, We did meet several times, I remember one time us all going to a pub in Aughton at lunch time. I am not sure if you had some connection with it ?

    Regards Jimmy
