    Default Hello

I would just like to say Hello to everyone. My name is Dave Steens. I am an ex seaman ( 1980-95 ) and was an AB. I worked for Denholm, Swedish Caledonian and Northern Marine. I also did a short stint with Carmet Tugs. I'm from Rock Ferry, Birkenhead. I support LFC, England RFU and I like dogs ( preferably Staffies ), and i'm really looking forward to looking up some of my old ships, and maybe some old shipmates.

Ha! Blast from the past! I was on the 'Troll' boats, the Park and the lake, in the early 70's, totalling about sixteen months sea time and from 4/E to 2/E. Hard working ships especially on North Atlantic run. Repeated change over from bulk paper to car decks and back again took its toll on the in hold pontoon decks. Vibration was a problem in the accommodation on the Lake, until the Sulzer generators were lifted onto flexible mountings. As deck 3/E on the 'Lake', I managed to 'engineer' maintenance on the forward Hagallund cranes just when there was an interesting part of the passage such as Malacca or Singapore straights. Machinery access doors opened forward and all that was missing was a deck chair. Long time ago now, but happy days.
    Ralph.

#1. Don’t suppose you were on the Stena Seaspread when she went down after the Falklands war to retrieve something from a sunken British Warship. ? There was someone I believe called Eades who was on site some time ago who was. JS
