Hi Sheila, like you I was also on the Rangitani, I sailed on it as a lift boy in 1961 and 1962, two trips. Captain was S Rees. It was a happy ship. I was a sixteen year old boy when I joined the ship, at first I wondered what I was walking into when the chief steward showed me to the cabin and I had to share it with Daisy a camp man who took me to meet her fellow shipmates Mollie and Sadie, I wondered what I was walking into. There were no Stewardesses on the ship other than these three. Quite funny really as when I became a Docker in 1966 the first ship I unloaded was the Rangitani. Happy days

Hi James. Thank you for your message which I found very interesting. However, I am Sheila's daughter Amberine and I am searching for my biological father, or anyone who remembers my mother on the Rangitane between 1963-64.
    Many thanks and blessings.

Hooray - first time I have located another female sea-goer. I was a telephonist first on Union Castle (I was literally one of their first seagoing telephonists. Later with P & O and sailing into Melbourne little did I think that one day my son and his family would be living in one of those houses near th dock.
