Good morning James. I worked on the I. of W. ferries as a boy, and spent a lot of my time on the 'SOUTHSEA' and the other two diesels, (SHANKLIN and BRADING)
If I remember rightly, the Brading caught fire whilst being scrapped at Portscreek, and the SHANKLIN was declared a total loss after she ran aground on the Welsh coast
whilst on a cruise. Before that, (and I think it was again the SHANKLIN) she was was in collision with a cargo ship that was coming out of the Camber docks
, and last of all, when she was entering the dock at Southampton, the wind caught her and blew onto the bow of one of the cross channel ferries tearing a large gash
in the large ferries stem--but it was so funny, as a head popped out of a port-hole and a voice shouted down to us--OI, what the .... are you doing?

    Regards,
    Colin
