Hi John looks like i just missed you.. did 14 trips on the "Beaverdell" from Sept 57 to Apr. 59. did the last 9 as 2nd/Stwd.

in the winter of 57-58 got stuck in the ice, was a bit late leaving Montreal before it all froze up.

Photo, steaming past Quebec after being released by an ice breaker, photo taken by a local newspaper from the air.
Bought a copy on my next trip.Beaverdell.jpg

Fred Lacey..R525985. Did 7 years on Port Boats and 3 years on Beaver Boats.

Hi Fred, I was stuck in the ice with you at the same time. I was on the Manchester Vanguard. Here is a photo that I took myself from the ice, also one of the icebreaker "d'Hiberville" breaking us out.

Thanks for the post Fred, that looks a bit to cold for my liking, I'm more of a tropicle person, nice to see the picture of the beaverdell, don't know what they burnt in that engine room, but every picture I see of her she's blowing out more smoke then those old destroyers laying a smoke screen in the war. All the best John w

Hi Brian,, Possibly one of the ships that got caught was the "Beaverford" as mentioned we left Montreal as it started to freeze up,
and a German ship the " Suderholm" followed us down river where we had broken the ice, just before Quebec we came to a stop
as it got to thick and were unable to carry on, and for some reason the Suderholm decided to try and pass and came to a sudden stop,
the noise that followed was deafening, sound of breaking glass, crockery, pots and pans, I reckon that everything that wasn't tied
or nailed down hit the deck, often wondered how they got on afterwardsimg914.jpgimg931.jpgimg963.jpgimg963.jpgSuderholm.jpg
