Re: Malcolm C Downing
Mike that’s why I say an 9 number would of been most likely well into the sixties, not 1954. The R is not even in on the number but that could be a clerical error or omission by the new member. Without going through all those who have entered dis A. Numbers is there anyone with such.? JWS.
The time I have been contributing to this site there have been many non seafarers who have done a lot of good to maintain it up to scratch. Why would anyone pose to be a seafarer when it is totally unnecessary. ?? Some caused disruption and caused the loss of a few well thought of members. If there is any such minded people they should be made aware they will be ignored. This site has lost enough genuine people to admit a lot of people bent on disruption and mayhem. They should just be ignored, that is the only language they understand. JWS.

Re: Malcolm C Downing
Hi,I looked at his id and found the name on his email address different to the name displayed.
His id also showed his date of birth (1936).
So with his surname and his date of birth,i entered these into the National Archive.this gave me
his correct registration number as R 591703.I can only say that the other number was what he
thought was his registration number, might be a seamans card number.who knows.

Re: Malcolm C Downing
Mike the information brings to mind my red identity card from the 1960s, this document we kept, where as the discharge book was kept by the master until signing off. If I remember correctly when working ashore the identity card was kept by the Labour exchange for tax and insurance purposes. Regards RM.

Re: Malcolm C Downing
#12... The readjusted number is more appropriate to the year 1954. It is to me at least. The Initial number quote was glaringly incorrect At the age Michael C. Downing is he might be a bit forgetful, being about the same age I know. Cheers JWS.

Re: Malcolm C Downing
My Number as shown R697530 from 1958 joining, and I had a Green ID Card!
As said that Card was kept by ones self all the time, actually used it many times as a Passport !
It was a sad day when I lost all those things plus my RAF Discharge Book as well,
