    Hi Des,
No I didn't site for my ticket. The Old Man encouraged me to take a land job as I had not done so from leaving school. I met a woman who said when I proposed, "the sea or me." Guess what was my choice? I emigrated with her to Canada. No regrets. After a few years bought a 27 foot sailboat and sailed Lake Ontario. Now due to health my sailing is restricted to making and running R/C models. The sea has never left my blood.

Sorry Charlie I don't know Johnny, but I will keep his name in mind, one never knows "it's a small world." Was he a mariner?

    Dear Peter,
You may recollect that we sailed together as apprentices with the Stanhope Steamship Company & according to my discharge book (more reliable than my memory) that would have been the "Stanburn" in 1954.
Would be delighted to hear from you.
