Dave the way you went was the shortest, it would have taken you two days longer via the Panama Canal, plus transit time, I worked it out for someone else on the site last year even giving them the latitude and Longitude of Miri

Hi Brian, I did my first trip on the Ingleton from May 1960. Senior Apprentice was a guy called Dave (Lofty) Veitch. After two trips on her I joined the Amberton and finished my time on her. Sailed as 3rd mate on Norton and Lynton.

Think I put this on a previous post. I went on board the old Geneton about 1954 in BA. To see a friend Charlie Briggs one of the apprentices there. I was on the Avonmoor at the time who Cappy thinks was a wreck. I came off the Geneton thinking how lucky I was to be on such a fine vessel The Geneton had an open wheelhouse the chartroom being under it. The helmsmen were there 24 hours per day in all weathers. No carpenter that was the apps job , soundings, battening down with canvas tarps and the numerous other jobs a chippy had. Someone told me years later that Charlie who I went to see finished up as Harbour master at Blyth. Cheers JWS.
