I was very interested in reading the above article, as my grandfather was the captain of the LA Cordillera at that time, he was also the captain of the LA Pampa. My grandfather was Captain Matthew Frame, and I have an article that was written at the time with a photo of him with the wrens.

    Hiya David,
I served onboard Tsuru Arrow 1978 thru to La Cordillera 1981. Best time of my Merchant Navy life. Wish I had kept track of the many friends I made there. Sadly no fotos either.

Hi, my name is Phil Ellacott and joined BM in 1968 as deck cadet on La Estancia and left in 1984 after serving as Mate for the last five years on Norman Lady. A lot of the intervening years spent on chemical tankers and Gearbulk ships. I would be pleased to hear from anybody who was around at this time.

Hi David, my name is Phil Ellacott. I'd like to join your Face Book page, is it still live? Can't find it on FB! I worked for Buries Markes from 1968 - 1984 and sailed on many of the ships, the last one being The Norman Lady!

Hi Paddy, did you serve on La Hortensia on the long voyage from April 1962? I served on the Montcalm in 1961!

Greetings Phil, A voice from the distant past.I also joined BM in 1968..La Primavera and was on La Colina with your goodself in 1969,then La Pampa,La Estancia,La Loma and finally Bulk Eagle where my sea -going career came to an abrupt end when I had an argument with a Munck Loader in Martinique.Munck Loader 1,Paddy nilI went to port,my right leg went to starboard and that was the last we ever saw of each other.Oh dear, how sad ,never mind.We last met in South Shields just before my last and nearly fatal voyage..It was good to hear of your own career development and I certainly envy you that...are you in touch with any of the other BM gang or South Shields crew for that matter. All the very best for now,

    Paddy
