    Default Arctic Convoy Crew Lists

    Hello

Growing up, I didn't know who my Grandfather was but since researching the family tree I've managed to trace his details but sadly he died before I could make contact.

I've managed to piece together some snippets but a relative has informed me he was part of the crews on the Artic Convoys during the Second World War but sadly they have no details of ship, dates or any other details.

Is there any records held of crew lists for the Artic Convoys anywhere? I've had a search on various family history sites as well as the National Archives website but have drawn a blank. I don't know therefore if the info he served on the convoy was incorrect or I'm just looking in the incorrect place.

    Details I have are:

Percy Albert Foyster - born 18/12/1920 in Suffolk

Any information or pointers greatfully received

    Glen

Perhaps, Arnold Hague's convoy data base will give you an idea of your uphill struggle. Sadly, it's not entirely accurate. Ideally, you need a vessel or convoy name. Then, yes, the KEW might be helpful.

My Grandfather was in the Royal Navy DEMs and also part of the convoys. I has recently received a copy of his records from the Navy. I applied online for his service records, and had little details, just his name, DOB and place of birth. The search was free, but did take a few weeks to come back, but from it I have a list of the ships and dates that he served on, and am currently researching in more depth his service. Hope this helps.

Are you able to tell us his ships?
    Brenda
There's also the question of his Arctic Star which he is entitled to

    Hello Mark
Have you investigated the Arctic Star yet?
There's been a lot of help available on this site over the years and how to apply

I have my Dads medals and he has the Atlantic Star, Africa Star ,Germany France Star and the War medal. My dad never talked much about the war. He passed when I was a typical 18 year old. Sadly we never really had a heart to heart about his early life. My Dad became a broken man when my youngest sister died aged 6.

    Hello James
What an awful sadness for all your family and for you to carry this through your life.
Do you have Dad's Discharge Book? Perhaps you could put his history together and make something positive out of all this.

I was away at sea when my mum died. My brother and his wife and my nephew cleared mum's house. Only reason I got the medals my eldest nephew rescued them and suggested to my brother that perhaps seeing I was at sea I would like them otherwise they would have ended up in the skip along with everything else.

If one thinks anything of medals and puts store by them and has no paperwork to accompany them then should have name and dis. Number engraved on them, for future generations only costs coppers and raises value. I have 5 all engraved only the miniatures have escaped having their back scratched, JS.
This is apart from other medals which are engraved with others names which I consider an honour to wear and are non military or war related. Haven’t counted but must be about a dozen. JS…
