Just to add a bit more confusion to the commemoration of MN war dead. If the said individual was covered by the Merchant Navy Pensions Act when they died and the family were in receipt of the pension, this individual would receive full war grave status no matter how they died, through accident, illness, suicide etc etc.

......... and finally. A Merchant Seaman could have encountered attacks on his convoy and survived. Survived a sinking and returns home. On arriving home he is killed in an air raid. He is not entitled to Merchant Navy war grave status and is only recorded in the Civilian Register of local deaths.

Billy #22, that is where some of the confusion comes in.
Many a seaman died ashore but was know by all as a seamen so may have thought it would count to the total losses.
    Happy daze John in Oz.
