Reminds me of a situation i was in some 50 years ago, my car had a dodgy battery, but managed to get it to start to get to work, as i drove into the station yard, i called out to one of the guys to open the doors of the spare garage at the back, where we had two large battery chargers fixed to the wall. As i drove in the guy said lift the catch for the bonnet, and i will connect it up. Now what neither of us knew was that the gauge on the charger was broken, the guy connected but could not get the gauge to read, so , said *bloody chargers broken *, and put both connections together in one hand. Bloody great big bang, and threw him across the garage, and quite badly burned his hands, and had to go home sick, unable to perform his duty. Must admit i felt really bad, kt

Batteries and chargers can cause some damage if you take your mind off what you are doing. I think you disconnect the neg- terminal first and reconnect it last from memory.
We used 24V system on mobile cranes which could be 4x6V or 2x12V batteries in series a few sparks did occur if one was the wrong way round.

Saw a program some years ago of people in the out back.

It showed how with a number of torch batteries you can get the car to start if the battery is flat.

Spare pumped up to 100 psi, then with an adaptor you can reflate a tyre with it.
