Default Research assistance - can't find seaman's ship or records

    Hello,

I'd be really grateful if anyone can advise how I can locate the ship(s) this seaman was assigned to.

Joeanis Apashay aka William Jacko. Born 1892 in Cameroon. I believe he worked as a steward. Ship impounded in Hamburg at outset of WW1.

    Much appreciated.

Now according to the info at hand so far we have a wee problem in guessing which Ship called Sappho this one was
There are a few but from dates a guess would be one of these, both official Numbers listed have Crew Lists at the NA Kew,but one would have to get these both to check??
    Cheers

Most likely after some research is the first one Built at Hull ???
however the second one which changed hands has the Crew list for that year in question 1941 so ???

    Official Nos: 111028, 111029, 111291, 111292, 111294, 111299, 111300, 111302, 111303,... | The National Archives

    Hello Mike,

    Thanks for this!

Apologies for the delay in replying. Just getting used to the forum. Silly me thought I'd receive an email notification... so hadn't checked back. But now I know.

    Appreciated,

    Sonia

    Hello Vernon,

I've not seen this info beforehand. Thank you!

I am aware that my seaman was interned at Ruhleben and he was referred to as 'Peanuts', as he sold produce at the camp. What has foxed me, though, was that he was from Cameroon which, prior to the war, was a German protectorate and, therefore, it's not apparent why he was interned as a British subject.

    You chaps are absolutely amazing!

This means the world to me - seriously. As mentioned, couldn't find his ship no matter how hard I tried for 2 years. I am so grateful.

    Kind regards,

    Sonia

Yes, it will, very much. My trail had gone cold.

    Thank you again.

    Best wishes,

    Sonia

    Hello Doc,

This is great information, thank you so much - and for the article.

I was kind of hoping that he made it out of the camp and had a long, happy life.

    Kind regards,

    Sonia
