William George Witham, SS Isleford (Glasgow)
William George Witham, SS Isleford (Glasgow)
I am hoping that someone will be able to help with the above.
I can tell you that he was an Able Seaman and was killed 25/01/1942 (aged 24) when SS Isleford sank with the loss of all hands under North Head, Wick whilst on its way from Lyness to Invergordon. The exact cause is unknown, although it is generally thought that it was driven north west by a hurricane.
Born: Gosport, Hampshire
Commemorated: Tower Hill Memorial, London
Son of The Late Joseph Henry and Florence Susan Mourant (formerly Witham) of 8 Chapel Row, Alverstoke, Gosport, Hampshire
Husband of Ethel Joyce Witham of “Peurkyn”, Camp Road, Bridgmary, Gosport, Hampshire
What I would like to know is when, where and on what date he enlisted, along with his service number.
Many thanks!
