#22 Danzo you and others may not agree with what I say , but you are getting a truthful reply as I see it. The gent behind is appatently in a Royal Marine uniform, not being able to discern very much maybe an ex Royal Marine could supply info. Going back to your fathers livery as some believe has already said, if RN then the cap badge is definitely wrong for a RN officer , and also for a P.O. If a P.O. would also be 6 buttons and not 8, If you blow up the picture thetop button appears to be outside the buttoning facility and if was buttoned would be behind the lapel and not seen, which leads me to believe it may belong to a costume wardrobe. However as said I may be wrong but that is my honest answer if asked. Big companies had their own uniforms but the one your father is wearing is not B.O. T. Regular M.N uniform , usually in the days when uniform was insisted upon the ones most likely to wear the genuine article were mainly from the tramp ship and independent companies. Your father could be wearing company uniform. Cheers JWS.

Bless you JWS. I tend to agree with you my friend, as knowing my old Pop, he would most definitely go and hire an outfit to make himself look more flashy than he otherwise was, although he was in fact in later life the most amazing Engineer, a stict authoritarian Dad but a lovely man, who had five rebellious boys, of the which I was his baby son. Mum died when I was just thirteen and never saw her beautiful land or her family every again, having been evacuated to London (Kensington) after she married Dad in Gibraltar in late 1942. I have put a set of photos of him in his early Sailor's outfit.

    Hello Danzo
While it is possible what JS posts and also that you may agree a little with that, as thee are those who like to get all togged up at times, but my thoughts as for now still think it is all genuine,i may be proved incorrect, but I hope not!
Now the only way to really put a lid on this issue is for you to get his CRS10 as I have listed ,that will give his full record ,and by that we can then look at the Ships he was on,from there we may ne able to establish which Company (Should be easy with Ships name) then again from there look up and see if we can pinpoint that Uniform Cap and Badge!
As said if we are to get to the bottom of this, its the only way now! What are you thoughts?
    Cheers

    Hi Vernon
I have a few records of ships that my Dad was on, which he copied for me. I have no idea what order they are in but I will post them on here for you to see. You may delete them afterwards if you wish.

    Blessings.

As it is very hard to make out the actual little insignia shown on that Cap Badge just at a pure guess it could well be a Cap Badge of the Union Castle Line as he seems to have served with quite a few.
Then again that Uniform also indicates that it may have been at some time him with the RN Reserve ??? As I see that he served on a RN Ship as well.
But will persue this ! LOL
    cHEERS

    Google

    Could be from the
Charente Steam Ship Co ???? Ship Colonial

    Last one for now
    Could be from
"Nordsee" Deutsche Hochseefischerei Bremen-Cuxhaven AG Shipping when on the Mecklenburg ???

Hi Vernon. Dad gave these copies to me when he was eighty, which would have been in 2000, as that was the time when I taught him to use the new Pachard Bell computer we had got him and incredibly, he took to it like a duck to water and was making Christmas cards for everyone and typing letters, making pictures etc, he was in his element.
I only wish that I had been able to lead him here to this wonderful forum, full of good friends, who would have intimately recognised and understood the trials of life that forged him into the man he was.
    Blessings

Hi Vernon. I recall having an argument with my brother Denis many years ago about our Dad's involvement in the war and he likened Dad's stories much like Uncle Albert's Del boy stories. I remember Dad saying something about him being a Petty Officer and when I told my brother, he laughed and said that our dear old Dad wasn't anywhere near the war but that was because he and Dad were always at odds. I found a Petty Officer's cap similar to my Dads but it is from HMS Ausonia. Although the cap emblem from 'The Royal Fleet Auxillary' looks similar too. Here below is a better image of Dad in his uniform.

    Best regards
    Danzo

    Thank you Danzo
That again as i look at it more and more is most definately one of a Cap Badge i have seen before here on site,in fact if i recall correctly i and either Louis or Terry on site searched and i did came up with this Badge, but i cannot now find it again. That threas was some time ago though by memory about two to three Years back!
All i can do is hope that i will again be able to find it for you!
That sort of Emblem is the Key,and that is why i recall it so well!
    Cheers
