That's interesting. All Dads family live in Dover. He has two brothers Patrick and Bob and his Sister Eileen. Dad's other Sister Kitty died a while back. Dad was in a Doctor Bernados home up in Ipswitch until he was old enough to be sent to the Naval training school somewhere in Norfolk.

Catherine (Gwen) Mathias was my Granny's name. Grandad was a Merchant Sailor too. His name seemed to fluctuate from Henry, Joseph and even John.

I would say the uniform is a square rig mn uniform and you can buy in any naval outfitters , the cap badge is not RN and not Mn as far as can make out , if could see any Braid or make out the brass buttons could be confirmed. Maybe the cap badge could be a company one . Maybe someone out of RFA might recognise. The white cover on cap in the days that was taken was only worn in the summer months, today is worn all the year round. Pointing to the fact. It was summer time so hope the weather was good for the day. Maybe the white cap cover is a sign also. Of climate change.... just joking. Cheers JWS.

Vernon, a hat with badge similar to that one was on site about a year ago with some one asking about it.
It was if I recollect in a thread about Uniforms.

A lot of people hire costumes to get married in. Not saying that is the case here. But seem to remember one post where it was possible that some picture was just that. I still have one of the many BOT Uniforms I had as they kept on shrinking but can’t put up a picture of same due to my ignorance on how to do so, but to buy the best when young, they were doeskin but as one got older they got cheaper and cheaper by cutting your cloth to suit and finished up as Barathea or a light serge, alright for ships use. Today most companies if any left supply their own versions of livery. People get all upset about wearing medals they aren’t entitled to, we have a labour politician here who has been tossed. Out for wearing a false police medal. Nothing is ever said about these launch skippers and such like wearing the recognised MN uniform and impersonating someone else. Looking at that photo again don’t even think the reefer jacket is MN standard. The top left handed brass button appears to be outside the buttoning facility. The four regular buttons should all be fastening. JS

Thank you for your observations regarding my Dad's uniform, what do make of the guy standing behind him?
    Best regards
