    Hi Jim
#Honestly I cannot remember any boarding passes on the Empress boats, there may have been but again it was a long time ago and difficult to remember 58 years ago.
I still have the US paper Immigration pass we had in Cunard but apart from that at near 83 the mind starts to dim a little.
    Cheers
    Brian
We have them on the Cruise ships like a credit card and goes into the computer when we go ashore and return.

I can remember the Yankee passes when i was in the states, but that was just a piece of paper in those days, and i did have mine for several years after coming ashore. But as you say Brian , memories from over 50 years ago i not very reliable, kt

With regard to above, i did one trip on the Alsatia, but i have no memory of that trip at all, the only reason i know is because its in my discharge book, no not the booze either, i did not drink very much at that time , i was just an apprentice boozer, kt

Port of Liverpool 1972 my wife was kept at the gates of Gladstone dock. She got a message to me that they would not let her through the gate without a boarding pass. Had to get one from the C/Off and take it to the gate. The copper came close to getting a belt in the gob for his comments as we walked away from the gate. My wife was about 7 months pregnant at the time.

All we ever had with UCL, and any other ship I sailed on was our seaman's card .
But if you were working by in Southampton then you would be issued with a pass to allow you access to the ship. That would be valid from docking day until the Monday of sailing week.

As to going on boards any other UCL ship on the SA coast all you had to show was your seaman's card.

Karen, if your dad could give us some names of who he sailed with and in which department he served there is a chance some on here may know him.
