International Express. November 22 2017.
UK spends 2 million pounds a week on Zimbabwe .
Britishtaxpayers have been sending 2 million pounds to Zimbabwe every week to promote democracy, it has emerged.
Figures show the corruption ridden country under the despotic regime of Robert Mugabe, sacked on Sunday as the ruling party, received almost 100 million pounds in foreign aid last year.
The country’s 99.7 million aid package formed part of the 13.4 billion pounds gifted by the UK in official developement Assistance . Mugabe 93 who has led Zimbabwe since. Independence in 1980, has been accused of election rigging and brutally stifling opposition.
It is understood the Department forInternational does not give money directly to the government of
Zimbabwe, instead working with non profit organisations.
Part of the DFIDs work includes supporting a peaceful democratic transition, improving government transparency and improving the way the economy and public finances work and are managed by the government of Zimbabwe to support economic developement and poverty reduction .
Meanwhile Britain boosted the financial handouts to Pakistan from 374 millionin 2015 to 463 million last year.

What a load of waffle.. no wonder there is a shortage of money in the UK. Give them Nowt.

Same here in Oz John. Gov gives monies, never directly, all through various bodies such as aid agencies or direct to schools ,hospitals and the like.
But even that does not stop people like that IC3 thug from ripping it out of the system.

Any politician (or pop star[so called]) who thinks that any money they send direct to any private organisation located in any country ruled by a despot is not sequestered by the said governing powers is living in cloud cuckoo land

To be taken back into the Commonwealth will require all of the other members to agree to the re-entry.
There may well be some other African members that may not be happy with them back.
