Hi Marian, brought back memories. In 1966, new to Brisbane (and Australia), I had to meet somebody off a passenger ship, having driven up from the Gold Coast. At the Victoria Bridge I spotted a couple of policemen, in their tan uniforms. Pulled over and got out of the car. One of them looked at me, and I asked
"Excuse me Officer, I'm looking for..." His mate interrupted and said "Are you taking the piss?" Obviously his usual customers were not so polite!

Talking about old Trams
Used to work as Conductor on the Johannesburg Municipal Tramway and Bus Company many Moons ago!
Gees they were swell old transport Vehicles, with that rattle rattle all day long, and they could move as well
Remember the one run I used to have down through Fordsburg Dip, (The Mayfair West Run)the old Tram got up some speeds there, and you had to have your wits about you or out the back you went LOL!
Double Deckers they were as were too

Used to get very full too, with many a passenger getting off and just sort of throwing the fare at me,no time to issue a ticket,so in the Hip pocket it went! Yea!! Beer Money for later!
Oppps!

Cheers

We still have them here in Melbourne but now known as Light Rail.

Yes John we have the Light Rail here going to Darling Harbour and other sectors but although they run on Rails its not nearly the same thing! More like a Mini Train! Only two carriages at a time, gets pretty crowded as all the Visitors are always on them!
They are starting a new Light Rail network through the City soon, and biy is that going to create Chaos!!
Don't want to be one who has to Drive to work with that going on!

The way things are panning out,it wont be long before Sydney takes that spot!
Enormous projects are at hand and even now being Built, parkland ,Entertainment Venues and the Likes!
The Visitor Population is growing so fast here now,one cannot keep up!
The only thing is that its very expensive to live in,where as I think Melbourne is not .
I stand corrected John!
Price of Housing is surely the top of the list here!
Oh well !
That's life !

Hi John
I think Liverpool is the most popular stop on the Round Britain Cruise Ships. Its all there in front of the Cruise Terminal.

Nostalgia,

We have just had a ham sandwich for supper I got a packet of crisps out of the cupboard and saw the price reduced to 50p. I thought for a while and realized that was the quivalent of 10 shillings. (enough said)
