Many of the members of this site will have attended the King Edward VII Nautical College (King Ted's).

Many of those will have spent a week of their training on the steam yacht WENDORIAN that was loaned to the College from 1952 and there are various snippets about her on the Net.

With the help of John Firmin and others I have researched the history of this amazing vessel and have documented it with photographs - many of which you are unlikely to have seen before - on my website HERE (http://www.benjidog.co.uk/MiscShips/Wendorian.html). I think I can safely say this is the most complete record about her you are likely to find.

If anyone has any further information about their time on WENDORIAN and/or has photographs from this period I would appreciate it if you were to get in touch.

Brian,

According to the miramar index the ship was built by Hawthorns & Co. of Leith at Yard 95 and her official no. was 1133718. There is also an old thread on the Shipsnostalgia forum discussing details of her at the link below:

I have now completed updating the Wendorian (http://www.benjidog.co.uk/MiscShips/Wendorian.html)webpage which now contains a great deal of information about her original owner and how he came to be in a position to purchase such a vessel.

Thank you to everyone that assisted me in completing this task which has taken far longer than I ever expected. If you happen to spot any errors or omissions please let me know.

I hope you will find it interesting.....

re Wendorian I was at KEV11 in 53 and we took the Wendorian under Cpt Miller to Cherbourg, Dinard, St Malo, and Guernsey. About 3 to 10 August. On way home we rescued a broken down yacht and towed her into Southend.
