Can anybody remember the name of the Goanese stew that was always simmering on the galley stove?

I have been racking my brains for weeks but to no avail,

Hi. I was on the Oriana back in the 6Os, and the Go-go's used to cook a curry up called Chow-Chow, and it was great. I have tried to copy it, but cannot get it just like the ones that they cooked. Take care.... Terry :th_thth5952deef:

If we found any flying fish on D deck, they ended up with the Goanese, not sure if they ended up in the curry.

I saw them catch a sting ray in Aden, that also went into the pot

Looking at my cook books on Curries it would seem that the Portuguese were the first to introduce garlic to India so their curries would include garlic but not anywhere else outside of Goa. They had another signature dish and that was Vindaloo, made with pork ( taboo to many Indians ) Vindaloo is a word derived from ' vin ' ( vinegar ) and aloo ( Portuguese for garlic ) And so ends todays lesson !!! Vindaloo, in some parts spelt Laxative, hence the 'loo' bit on the end.
